About
Located in the heart of Montréal at 1453 Rue Bélanger, Cabanas Restaurant Et Pupuseria invites diners to experience authentic Salvadoran flavors with generous portions and heartfelt hospitality. This gem is more than a restaurant—it’s a vibrant celebration of Salvadoran culture, reflected in its cozy yet lively atmosphere, detailed with traditional Salvadoreña decorations that transport you straight to Central America.
The highlight here is undoubtedly the handcrafted pupusas, praised repeatedly by patrons like Jose Mendez for their freshness and authenticity. Each pupusa is made from scratch, offering a taste that honors time-honored recipes without cutting corners. Whether you’re a first-timer or a regular, the comforting, robust flavors make every visit memorable.
Beyond pupusas, the menu presents an extensive variety of dishes crafted with fresh ingredients and care, suitable for diverse palates. From impressive corn cakes reminiscent of cherished family recipes to hearty jaleas that satisfy and impress, there is something for everyone. The portions are consistently substantial, making every meal excellent value—something noted by many, including Mohit Mehtaji, who highlighted how $100 can comfortably feed four with appetizers, entrees, and drinks.
The dining experience is complemented by welcoming, attentive service and a warm ambiance that is both inviting and spirited. Indoor and outdoor seating options, including a patio, provide flexibility and comfort. And for a perfect end to the meal, a round of tequila shots brings an authentic Salvadoran touch, enhancing the feeling of having traveled far without leaving Montréal.
One practical note for prospective guests: Cabanas Restaurant Et Pupuseria is cash-only, so plan accordingly. Despite this, the overall experience—combining fresh, handmade dishes, culturally rich atmosphere, and genuine service—makes it a must-visit destination for anyone seeking comfort food with heart and heritage.
“ My family and I had a great experience at Cabañas. The food was amazing, with very generous portions, the service was very welcoming, and the atmosphere was both cozy and lively, with all the beautiful Salvadoreña decorations. That, plus the tequila shots at the end of the meal made me feel I was visiting El Salvador! Definitely coming back at the next opportunity! Just keep in mind that it is cash only, but they have an ATM machine at the spot. ”
“ Incredible food for value. Everything was fresh and made to order. Though service is a little slow the food very much made up for that. There is seating indoors and outdoors. While the menu is quite large all food is great. The portion sizes are larger than expected but also value for money. I.e $100 can get a table of 4 an appetiser, entree and a drink. Definitely recommend this place. ”
“ Food is always great every time, good portions!! Highly recommend ⭐ ”
“ Really recommend this restaurant when you are finding food near jean talon. The food is delicious. The cake of corn is impressive, which reminds me of the cake made by my grandma. But I am from China so maybe the delicious flavor shares in the world:) The price is reasonable but only accept cash. ”
“ By far my favorite pupuseria everything is fresh and made by hand they don’t cut corners. If you’re looking for the best pupusas in the city you’re at the right place! ”
